Oh Wow..You look sooooo hot with makeup sweating off your face!

Yep, this is going to be a gym rant. At the gym I go to, we have all female section, and a co-ed section. I assume this is for girls do not get gawked at. This is a good idea, I can understand not wanting to be stared at (See my post Please stop starring). Now, in theory, this works, in practice though..oh boy...

My friend likes to use the term "gym hoes". I assume after the phrase "Bar hoes". These girls have a list of things they do.

* Wear full makeup, like they were going to the bar.
* Do there hair for the gym
* Wear tight fitting spandex, and see through shirts
* Do the stair master in front of all the other cardio machines
* Use the pink weights
* Either do not break a sweat...or sweat so much there makeup drips off.
* Tend to hangout in the cardio area, or the free weights are (where all the built guys are), this is also where they tend to use the pink weights they swiped from the cardio room.
* Wear two piece bikini's and swim in the pool, which is in full view of everyone in the gym..but they do not swim, they splash around and wade.

There are many more, and I am sure you could all add a few to the list. The thing that really gets me, is why do they think they are attractive with makeup good dripping off there face as they work on it super bright ugly as sin pink florescent spandex.

So my question to all you girls who visit my blog here.....

Do you do this?
Do you know why people do this?

My friend Mjet, who is also my blogexplosion renter this week (go click on the lil box right under my profile, she is funny as hell and has a funny entry about odd inventions today, it opens in a new window ) informed me that she wears makeup to the gym, but not a lot, and it is because she is coming from work. That is understandable, but why not wipe it off?

Soooo do you guys do this? Do you know people who do this? Why do people do this?

Currently, I don't go to the gym...but when I did, I didn't wear any makeup. To me, it seems pointless. Look, I am way too fat to try to impress anyone at the gym so why make more of a spectacle of myself by having makeup running all over my face mixed with sweat?? Plus, my face gets all RED in that incredibly sexy work-out kind of way. LOL :)

Love your blog, by the way! I added you to my favorites because I need all the encouragement I can get in my fight to lose flab!!

I took my makeup off before working out, otherwise my skin broke out. I don't understand why anyone would want to work out in full makeup.

When I did go to the gym, I didn't wear makeup, I also didn't wear form fitting clothes. I went to workout, not to pick up. I always thought it was funny seeing women decked out like they were going to a club...

Some girls are trying to pick up men, and maybe some are just too insecure to be seen without makeup. I've been to the gym with foundation on before...but never eye makeup, blush, lipstick, etc.

::GRIN:: I quit wearing makeup while exercizing when I quit playing in a punk band way back in the '80's! I used to wear a huge green mohawk for a hairstyle and kohl under my eyes back then.(Damn, the things we do when we're young!)

Your post made me laugh because I think about that everytime I go to the gym and see some hoochie looking like she's out on the husband prowl! I don't get it... You are going to the gym to sweat... When I sweat my make up runs down my face and I look like a fool... Yes, now that is the look we all want to acheive!

I know some people afraid to leave their house without make up, some even afraid to take it off at all, even in their private moments... insecurity and cultural pressure is powerful...

we are such a visual culture in the west and too often people feel pressured to compete with pictures in magazines and movies and faces on TV... thing is, if we saw those people off camera we'd be amazed at how much makeup they had on...

for some, vanity is more powerful than reality... for some image is everything... maybe it's the primal instinct, finding a mate, survival of the species... but attractiveness is not the same as beauty, after all...

personally, even a little make up is a turn off, but then, I accept being on the fringe of western culture in most of my perspectives and tastes...

I like to use my girlfriends lipstick to make a big smiley face on my belly and then go workout shirtless, it's just one of the many reasons all the women there want me.

It's funny. My most recent post is VAGUELY related to yours.

I call all meat market gym scenes like the one you describe: "Club Ballys."

These people are so BLATANTLY not about physical fitness that it's laughable. I almost wish they'd just build a separate bar space where all these people (men and women) could openly congregate in their gymwear. It would benefit ALL of us!

Oh, and congratulations on your weight progress so far. You DEFINITELY deserve to be commended. :)

i'm the wrong one to ask about why women wear make-up to begin with! it just clogs up your pores and makes a mess anyway.

I don't where much make-up anyway, because I hate it in hot weather when it melts. and in queensland(australia), it's hot!!! To be honest I've never been to a gym. my friends keep trying to convince me to go, but I'm a bit afraid. I just need to make that first step. I'm not sure what I'm afraid of.

I can't even begin to imagine WHY women do this ... but I have noticed it too in the times that I've gone to the gym. The spandex thing I can understand IF they are body building -- because women do this too and the spandex does allow them to "watch" their muscles -- same as the men do! I, being the size of a barn, do not care to show off my jiggling fat in that manor, and thus wear very loose fitting shorts and t-shirts! No make-up -- but then, I don't usually wear make-up at all anyway -- only if I'm going out for a special evening or something. I do know this... from having danced in bars in my younger days... mascara HURTS when it sweats into your eyes! So these women have to be willing to put up with it! LOL!

The womem who wear makeup to gyms just want to show off. Show off?? hahhaa... Makeup dripping down your sweaty face is not a pretty sight to look at. As far as the spandex goes, At least half of those women in the gyms shouldn't be wearing it. Why would you want to show off every bulge and roll. I gave up on gyms, they are just meat markets. You can lose weight by exercising at home, walking, hiking, etc. My main problems is just getting my lazy butt off the couch! :) Have a great Day!

I have no problem with the tight clothing and parading around. :)

Runny makeup is kind of yuck though.

First off you don't want to get me started on how shallow some people can be. But since this is the subject let me say...anyone purposly wearing make-up so inappropriatly deserves the end results...the clown face and the not so flattering comments.

(someone please call the fashion police for this next one)
Spandex...let me say ewwwwwwwww! there are very few people that can actually carry that look off. I am guilty of spandex shorts (purely comfort reasons) when I jogged..but (& this is a big butt) I had on a baggy t-shirt covering the shorts. Spandex is a fashion no-no.

Two thumbs up to you Tyler...Good job!

The entire make-up thing sort of reminds me of the wicked witch in the Wizard of Oz..."Help Me, I'm Melting!"

Your title, "Oh Wow..You look sooooo hot with makeup sweating off your face!" has a two-fold meaning. Hot as in sexy or temperature. Was that on purpose? *grins*

I know the type of person you're talking about - a no I don't do it :) in fact I'm not a make-up type of person full stop and I certainly wouldn't go through the trouble of putting it on just so I could sweat it off half an hour later on the treadmill. Why do people do it? Goodness knows why. Apparently some people use the gym to socialise - maybe they think wearing make-up and ill fitting spandex will help them catch a guy!? :S who knows!

I saw your link from bike journal. I feel your pain about the gym hoes. I knew a girl who would wear a thick push up bra under her sports bra so she could tell herself how "hot" she looked in the mirrors at the gym. Barf. If you're not there to workout and sweat, get out of my way!

  • At 9:58 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

Ditto on the BJ link. Those girls drive me insane. The gym is a social scene (read: meat market), there is no way around it. And while I would rather meet someone at a gym than at a bar, I am not there to "hunt". No makeup. Hair not fixed. And those silly girls that spend 30 min in the locker room getting all fixed up to go workout should just stay in the locker room... cause they just get in the way... taking up equipment they aren't really using. Okay, rant over... sorry 'bout that.

The only time this girl wears spandex to the gym is if I'm taking a spinning class. And it's only for the additional padding in the ass. Not cause I look hott in spandex. Because after a spinning class I'm anything BUT hot. These "gym hoes" as you call them, drive me NUTS! I'm a girl. I go to the gym. I wear a baggy t-shirt and black yoga-esque pants if I'm not taking a class. I feel NO need to wear make-up (but perhaps thats because I dont wear make up in general). But really, it's just silly.

My question is -- does anyone actually think those girls are hot? Because I just think it's annoying.

Great post! (clearly it got me all fired up too haha)

I worked in a gym for a few years, then worked in the corporate office for a gym, for a few more.... the make-up thing is pretty normal. Many go there to meet people.

These women just don't realize that they look like crap. Runny mascara does not a beauty make.

  • At 2:52 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

well i don't do that and i tend to work out at home so absolutely no one can see me. but when i go running i don't put make up on to do it. plus i don't own spandex. maybe they think they are going to pull at the gym??

    Hey,
Just finished reading this and laughed so hard...LOL!

I only wear makeup if going to a club and want to scare ppl...seriously. But this did give me an idea, if I ever go back to the gym and it is busy...i could use the makeup to scare ppl out so I could have use of some of the equipment!!!

    Later

My guess would be, they are trying to find a man? And no, I don't do that. I go to the gym to sweat... and I am very stingy and would not want to waste money on makeup that is going to drip off. :) I'm not really a girly type girl though even if I have my fru fru moments. :) You are doing so awesome. Your blog is really helping my stay motivating in the workout dept. :) -Pernicious Person
