The 400 pound mile

Can I cut off my legs please?

Yep thats right. Chop em right off, throw em in the trash. I'll cycle with my hands if I have too!

I went back to the gym today for the first time in forever. It was also the first time since I canceled WoW. And the first time I've done any actual real excersize since I started WoW. Needless to say I am sore. I feel like every bone in my body is crying and I just want to roll over and die.

Btw...

The workout lasted 10 minutes....

Thats right, 10 minutes on a cross trainer and I was ready to die.

I think my muscles started deteriorating, just slowly died away as they were not needed to play WoW. In 7 years I am predicting a mass influx of wheelchairs for WoW players, all 7 million+ will need them, since we do...nothing.

So what does this tell me?

That I am literally in the worst shape of my life. I have never, never been not able to do less than 30 minutes on thos machines. I could usually do an hour fine. So here I am, worst shape ever.

So what now? I mean, ouch, 10 minutes and I die?

Well for that motivation we will go to a picture of a good friend of mine...

Tom

Tom was wheelchair bound and on oxygen. Now he bikes regularly for a few hundred miles a week.

Here will be my motivation to get back into shape.

So I will post tomorrow, and let you all know how it went, how many minutes I did.

10 minutes...

sigh..

I was considering getting a WoW subscription.....thanks for saying how addictive it can be.
I'm going to spend my money on a gym membership instead.

    Tusk - dont do it!

Tyler - what's important is that you got to the gym today, and that you will go tomorrow or the day after, then a couple of days after that, and before you know it, you'll be back to an hour. You can see on my blog today that I've had a serious decrease in my running capacity in just two months of playing WoW and overeating, its alright though, its an uphill climb for us big dudes but we can and will do it. Tom's amazing, very motivational!! Hope you're well.

Tyler, Thanks for the plug! I'm in winter training mode right now and I catch lots of movies and such......while riding on my trainer! :) That is I'm riding the trainer when the weather is too bad to ride outside! I'll have a trainer post up soon, by the way, probably over the weekend.

I agree with livingminimal. What's important is that you went, and you got started. Things will only get better from here! Good luck!

Glad to have come across your blog. I've just started working on losing weight too.

That's 10 minutes more than you did the day/year before. 10 becomes 20 and 20 becomes 40. I was wheezing after 5 when I first started out now I'm doing an hour and forty minutes between three different machines. The important thing is to get in there and do it.

Just surfed your blog via Blogmad. Cool to have hopped on a (relatively) local's page!! 10 minutes may have tired you out today, but it'll be nothing to you in mere weeks. Good luck!

    Just came by via BE.

Great job getting started! A couple things to consider: stretch before and after exercise. I find that stretching before lets me have a greater range of motion, and stretching after prevents cramps and aches.

Also, try pushing yourself slightly less hard so that you can continue for a longer amount of time. Getting your heart rate up to a reasonable level is more important than killing your muscles. If you're not taking your pulse occasionally, try that. Do a google for the theoretical maximum heart rate and target heart rate you should be aiming for.

    Best wishes. :)

Theoretical MaxHR = 220- your age. I'd take that down a bit due to your general physical condition and for now not exceed 130-140BPM as a max. Long term effort, IE: Weight loss cycling, try to stay around 120BPM or about 65% of your theoretical max.

I just can't belive you canceled WoW...that's commitment. I play and I can't wait for the expansion to come out....I use a timer so that I don't over play. I also force myself to do chores and errands before I let myself play...it's toug, though.

Guys, maybe we should start a club of "quit WoW and start cycling"!

I quit WoW back on 26 August '06:
    http://amdsoft.com/2006/10/31/game-time-expires-how-i-quit-world-of-warcraft/

And put all the time from that into cycling and my sports blog:
    http://sportcrazy.net/

My housemate still plays 60hrs/week and my colleague and my girlfriend just gave up. With all the recent buffs to druid making it a decent class again I've been almost tempted to sign up again, especially with TBC coming.

One of the important things I did was uninstall the damn game completely - it makes it a little harder to get back into it :)

In case anyone missed the point: DON'T GET WOW!

    Tailwinds!
